Shaping History through the Power of Fasting

A message based on Jesus fasting to start his ministry and also the church in Antioch fasting, praying and worshiping which resulted in the missionary journeys of Barnabas and Paul.

Jesus fasted 40 days and returned in the power of the Holy Spirit. The early church fasted in Antioch and launched a missions movement that changed the course of history in western civilization. Fasting for the power of God should be a discipline in the believers life! We can do ministry and serve God in our own power which is dangerous or we can learn a greater dependence on the power of the Holy Spirit as God strips us of our sinful motives and our self dependence.

Luke 4:1 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2where for forty days he was tempted a by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.

Luke 4:14 14 Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside.
